This first report from a multi-year, $4.3 million evaluation of audience building commissioned and funded by The Wallace Foundation examines the current state of the nonprofit performing arts audience-building and financial health literature and its gaps.

This paper contributes to our understanding of the barriers for the "initiation" and the potential for the "affiliation" of new audiences to a form of art, opera, which is largely considered "high culture."
